Carol Miller Justice Center: pay a ticket or request traffic school.
Where Is Sacramento Traffic Court?
Sacramento County traffic tickets are handled by the Traffic Division of the Sacramento Superior Court. It isn't in the downtown courthouse. Traffic court is at the Carol Miller Justice Center, 301 Bicentennial Circle, Room 100, Sacramento, CA 95826, off Power Inn Road near Highway 50.
That's true whether you were stopped in the city of Sacramento, Elk Grove, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Folsom, or an unincorporated part of the county.
- Phone: 916-875-7800 (call center, payments and traffic school)
- Public counter: Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Virtual counter: you can also talk to a clerk over Zoom during counter hours
Hours change from time to time, so confirm them on the court's traffic page.
How to Look Up and Pay a Sacramento Ticket
Most people never need to walk into the Carol Miller Justice Center. You can handle a ticket four ways:
- Online: look up your case and pay by credit or debit card in the court's Public Case Access System.
- By phone: call 916-875-7800 and pay by card.
- In person: pay at the traffic counter by card, check, or money order.
- By mail or drop box: send a check or money order made out to Sacramento Superior Court.
One warning about mail: the court does not go by postmarks. Your payment has to arrive by 5 p.m. on your due date.
A Tip Before You Choose a Payment Plan
Sacramento offers monthly payments with 10% down. But once you sign up for a payment plan, the court says your case is no longer eligible for traffic school. If you want to keep the point off your record, request traffic school first.
How to Request Traffic School in Sacramento
You have to ask by the due date on your ticket. You can request traffic school through the Public Case Access System, by phone, at the virtual or in-person counter, or by mail.
Here's what to expect:
- Cost: your full ticket amount plus a $52 non-refundable administrative fee. The court doesn't take partial payments for traffic school.
- Deadline: you get 90 days to finish the course.
- Proof: when you finish, your school notifies the court for you.
You're generally eligible if you have a valid noncommercial license, your ticket is a moving violation that carries a point, you haven't signed up for traffic school in the past 18 months, and your ticket doesn't involve alcohol, drugs, or a required court appearance.
What Will the Ticket Cost?
California sets fine amounts statewide. In 2026, a speeding ticket for 16 to 25 mph over the limit totals about $363, and a stop sign ticket is about $234. Our guide to California speeding ticket costs has the full table.
To look up your case you'll need your citation number. Here's where to find it on your ticket.
Where Sacramento Drivers Get Pulled Over
Sacramento sits where I-5, I-80, Highway 50, and Highway 99 all meet, and the CHP patrols every one of them. The Capital City Freeway is another common spot. On surface streets, Watt Avenue, Howe Avenue, and Arden Way see plenty of red light and speeding tickets.
