How to Pay a Fresno Traffic Ticket

You don't have to go to court to pay. Fresno gives you four ways:

  1. Online. Pay with a credit card through the court's Pay Traffic Fines page. You can make a one-time payment or set up monthly payments.
  2. By phone. Call the Traffic Division at (559) 457-1700 during business hours.
  3. By mail. Send your payment to the Van Ness Avenue mailing address above.
  4. Drop box. There's a drop box inside the M Street Courthouse, open weekdays from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Can't pay it all at once? The court offers a payment plan. It adds a $35 installment fee, and you pay 10% of your balance up front and at least $50 a month after that.

Need More Time?

The clerk's office can give you one 90-day extension to pay your ticket or to finish traffic school. Ask before your due date. You can request it by phone, fax, email, in person, or on the court's website.

How to Request Traffic School in Fresno

If your ticket qualifies, traffic school keeps the point confidential so insurance companies don't see it. In Fresno County, here's how it works:

  1. Ask the court. Request traffic school by mail or at the courthouse drop box before your due date.
  2. Pay the court. You pay your full ticket amount plus a $67 administrative fee.
  3. Take a DMV-licensed course. You get 90 days from the day you sign up to finish.

Most drivers qualify if they have a valid license, were driving a noncommercial vehicle, haven't used traffic school in the past 18 months, and weren't going more than 25 mph over the limit.

What a Fresno Ticket Costs

Fine amounts are set statewide. In 2026, a speeding ticket for 1 to 15 mph over the limit totals about $234, and running a red light is about $486. See the full table in our guide to how much a speeding ticket costs in California.

Your exact amount and due date are on the courtesy notice the court mails you. If you can't find it, your citation number will pull up your case. Here's where to find your citation number.

Where Fresno Drivers Get Tickets

The CHP writes a lot of tickets on Highway 99 through the middle of the county, and on Highway 41, Highway 168, and Highway 180 where they cross Fresno and Clovis. In town, Fresno and Clovis police watch busy streets like Blackstone Avenue, Shaw Avenue, and Herndon Avenue for speeding, red lights, and phone use.
